Fencing Built for Salt Air
On the Sunshine Coast, what kills a fence early is rarely impact or age. It is salt. Airborne salt carries a long way inland from the beach, settles on every surface, and holds moisture against the metal underneath. A fence that would last decades in Caboolture can start showing corrosion at the fixings within a few years if the wrong product goes in near the water.
The coating matters more than the metal. Powder-coated aluminium is the safest choice within close range of the surf, because aluminium does not rust the way steel does even where the coating gets chipped. Further inland, GramLine® steel with an intact powder-coated finish performs extremely well and gives you a far wider colour range to work with.
Most failures start at the fixings. Screws, brackets and post bases corrode long before the middle of a panel does. Rinsing salt residue off with fresh water two or three times a year makes a genuine difference to how long the finish lasts, and costs nothing.
