In 1985, Deception Bay was a much quieter place. The estates that now fill Narangba and Morayfield were still paddocks, and a small family fencing supply business opened its doors without much of a plan beyond doing decent work for people nearby.
Forty years later, Accolade Fencing is still family-owned, still in Deception Bay, and still doing the same thing. This is the short version of how that happened, and what it means if you are buying a fence from us.
Four Decades in One Trade
Plenty of businesses claim experience. What 40 years actually buys you is narrower and more useful than the marketing version: you have already seen how things fail.
You know which finishes chalk out after a decade of Queensland sun and which hold their colour. You know that coastal blocks near Beachmere and Redcliffe punish fixings long before they punish panels. You know which fence styles homeowners regret, and which ones people come back and order again for the second property.
None of that comes from a catalogue. It comes from supplying the same region long enough to watch the results.
What Changed, and What Didn't
The region changed enormously. We have watched Deception Bay, Narangba, Morayfield, Caboolture, Beachmere and the wider Moreton Bay area grow from semi-rural into established suburbs, and the fencing demand changed with it: more new estates, more pool barriers, more automated driveway gates on acreage blocks.
The products changed too. Steel fencing today is a manufactured system with proper engineering behind it, not the improvised job it often was in the eighties. We became an authorised GramLine® supplier and built up what is now Queensland's largest GramLine® colour range, and we stock Colorbond® steel fencing alongside it for customers who specifically want that product.
What did not change is the shape of the business. It is still family-owned and family-run. You are still talking to people who will be here next year, which is not universal in this trade.
Why We Supply but Don't Install
This is the question we get asked most, and the answer says a lot about how we work.
We are a manufacturer and supplier, not a fencing contractor. We make and stock the materials, and we refer installation out to a network of local installers we trust.
We could have added an installation arm at various points. We chose not to, because doing both well is harder than it looks, and doing installation badly would damage the part of the business we are actually good at. It also means we can give you straight advice about materials without quietly steering you toward whatever suits our install schedule that month.
So when we tell you a product is not right for your block, there is nothing in it for us either way. That is the point.
The Workshop Is the Real Asset
The thing that genuinely separates us from a reseller is that we have a working metal fabrication workshop in Deception Bay, with 40 years of welding experience behind it.
That is why we can make a gate to match a fence line that is not a standard width, fabricate custom screens and balustrade to an opening rather than to a catalogue size, and take on the odd jobs that do not fit a product page. A business that only moves stock in and out of a warehouse cannot do that.
It is also why trade customers stay. Some of the fencing contractors and builders ordering from us today have been doing so for more than a decade, and our friends at Beachmere Fencing have been trade partners for years. Trade customers are unsentimental. They keep ordering because the material is right and it turns up when it should.
What 40 Years Should Mean for You
Not a plaque on the wall. Practically, it should mean:
Advice that survives contact with reality. We have seen what these products do after 10 and 20 years in this climate, on these blocks
Genuine range. Queensland's largest GramLine® colour range, so a replacement fence can match what is already on the property instead of almost matching it
Custom capability. If your project does not fit a standard size, that is ordinary work here, not a special favour
Somewhere to actually go. A workshop and a yard you can visit, with real people in it
Our Google rating currently sits at 4.8 stars across more than 30 reviews. We would rather that number grew slowly and honestly than quickly.
Come and See It
The single best thing you can do before choosing a fence colour is look at it in daylight, next to the other options, rather than on a screen. Colour charts lie a little. Sunlight does not.
